What Is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is one of the principle components of an age-old system of medicine that originated in China over 2,000 years ago.

The philosophy behind acupuncture is beautifully simple. It teaches that energy lines, or meridians, circumnavigate our body bringing energy flow or ‘qi’ to every nook and cranny of us. Each energy line or meridian is seen as being responsible for many interconnected functions in our bodies, minds and spirits.

It is when this energy flow becomes blocked, weak, or impaired in some way that imbalance, emotional distress and illness occurs. As an acupuncturist, my job is to rebalance and harmonise this energy flow. This is primarily achieved through the insertion of very fine needles into specific acupuncture points on the body.

Acupuncture can be effective intreating a wide range of complaints including headaches and migraine, back pain, anxiety/depression, infertility, digestive issues and stress. But this is not an exhaustive list. Because the beauty of this very elegant form of medicine is that we are not treating the symptom itself but rather the root cause and there is therefore the potential to treat a very wide range of issues.

And so when I treat, I regard each person as a unique individual and work to heal you on every level, not just the physical. It’s not rocket-science that our hectic 21st century lives mean that many physical complaints have a root cause in our mental or emotional selves. And it is this root cause I aim to treat.

This deceptively simple process can have a profound impact on you as a person. Rebalancing your system, it can relieve many physical complaints, bring you renewed health and well-being and help you to feel happier in your own skin.
