Poached Pear & Plum

Serves : 4

Cooking Time : 20 mins

This is super easy to make and really delicious – as breakfast or dessert topped with a good granola and a dollop of yoghurt – greek, plain or coconut, or whatever you’re having yourself! It is also a great way to use up fruit that is about to turn – apples, peaches, strawberries anything along those lines. In August/September I throw in the squishier blackberries from our picking expeditions.

Ingredients:

Two ripe pears, peeled, cut into 8ths and cored
4 super ripe plums
Small pinch of cinnamon
Water to cook

Method

Pop the sliced pears, plums and cinnamon into a fairly large pot.

Cover the bottom of the pot with water. You don’t want too much water as the juice of the fruit will seep out soon enough and make a lovely sweet sauce.

Turn on a medium heat, bring to a simmer and then lower the heat with the lid on for approx 15 minutes, or until the fruit is nice and soft.

Serve two slices of pear, a plum and some of the cooking liquid in a bowl, topped with granola and a dollop of yoghurt.

Same idea with stewed apples and wild blackberries is also delicious. It also works really nicely on top of your porridge in the mornings.
